At Northland Women’s Health Care, P.C., our all-female staff is comprised of dedicated individuals who are committed to providing you with an obstetric care experience that puts your health and the health of your baby first. We unite compassion with meticulous health care for mothers-to-be.

Your First Visit

At the first prenatal visit we evaluate all risk factors that may impact the pregnancy. We counsel patients on first and second trimester screening for chromosomal abnormalities and neural tube defects. We will aid you with coping with symptoms of pregnancy, including morning sickness and other discomforts. We will also provide you with advice related to your diet, medication usage, and overall health during the course of your pregnancy. If you have questions or concerns before, during or after your delivery the physicians of Northland Women’s Health Care, P.C., will be here to help you. We understand the delicate nature of pregnancy and strive to guide our patients through a safe and healthy journey to motherhood.

NWHC Obstetrics In Office UltrasoundIn-House Ultrasounds

Ultrasounds are offered in the office as well as an optional gender ultrasound as early as 16 weeks gestation and 3D/4D ultrasonography. For patient convenience, we have an in-house lab services available for necessary bloodwork.

Risk Management

Our physicians manage both low-risk and high-risk pregnancies. Risks such as diabetes, hypertension, thyroid disorders, pre-eclampsia, advanced maternal age, previous cesarean sections, gastric bypass surgery and others are carefully managed by our staff. High risk care is routinely coordinated with highly specialized perinatologists in the Kansas City area. Our staff coordinates all necessary appointments with other specialists and maintains close contact with them. We want our patients to focus on their pregnancy and health without worrying about the minor details.

Please note: take the minimum amount of drug needed, not to exceed the dose and frequency per label directions!

Pain Relief

  • Heating pad (not to abdomen)
  • Tylenol®/Acetaminophen

  • Topical analgesia – IcyHot®, Bengay®, Biofreeze®

Heartburn/Reflux

  • Bland diet
  • Maalox®
  • Tums®
  • Rolaids®
  • Pepcid®/Famotidine
  • Tagamet®/Cimetidine
  • Zantac®/Ranitidine
  • Prescription – i.e. Nexium®, Protonix® (available in some cases and considered safe)

Constipation

  • Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water daily
  • Fiber
  • Citrucel®
  • Metamucil®
  • Benefiber®
  • Dulcolax®
  • Glycerin suppository
  • Milk of Magnesia®
  • Colace®/Docusate
  • Peri-Colace®
  • Magnesium citrate (120-240 mL)

Nausea and Vomiting

  • Eat small frequent meals/snacks
  • Bland foods, high protein diet, avoid fatty foods
  • Snacks at bedside table (i.e. crackers/ginger cookies) – eat before rising
  • Peppermint
  • Lemon drops
  • Ginger
  • Vitamin B6/Pyridoxine (25mg three times daily as needed)
  • Unisom® (12.5mg 1-2 times daily, start at bedtime due to drowsiness)
  • P6 Acupressure wrist band (Sea-Bands®)
  • Benadryl®/Diphenhydramine
  • Dramamine®/Dimenhydrinate
  • Emetrol®
  • Prescription – if unrelieved by above, discuss this with your physician

Diarrhea

  • Bland diet and plenty of clear liquids
  • Donnagel®
  • Imodium®/Loperamide

Yeast Infection

    • Best to use over-the-counter 7-day cream like Monistat7® or Gyne-Lotrimin®
    • Discuss with physician if symptoms not resolved
  • Hemorrhoids

    • Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water daily
    • Fiber (in your diet or by supplements)
    • Avoid straining for bowel movements
    • Preparation H®
    • Anusol-HC®
    • Tucks® Pads
    • Sitz Baths

    Colds/Upper Respiratory Issues/Allergies

    • Hot tea with honey, lemon, and/or ginger
    • Throat lozenges/spray
    • Vicks® VapoRub®
    • Over-the-counter meds with Guaifenesin (i.e. Robitussin®) or Dextromethorphan (i.e. Delsym®)
    • Saline or Afrin® nasal sprays, nasal irrigation
    • Mucinex®
    • Chlor-Trimeton®/Chlorpheniramine
    • Zyrtec®, Allegra®, Claritin®
    • Best to avoid medications containing Phenylephrine or Pseudoephedrine

    Sore Throat

    • Throat lozenges/spray
    • Hot tea (honey, lemon, ginger)
    • Cold medications as above
